After the speculation machine had gone into overdrive around Tir Chonaill Park last week, entertainer Patrick Kielty was finally revealed as the man to lead the team in a Christmas special of RTE’s reality Celebrity Bainisteoir.
The Star of stage and screen, from Co Down, will manage the Greenford side for their 14 December clash with Maryland, Westmeath, who won the first series of Celebrity Bainisteoir earlier this year.
With the players and committee instructed to wait the arrival of their celebrity in one of the changing rooms at Tir Chonaill Park last Saturday, Kielty walked in and introduced himself by saying “Hi everybody, I’m Graham Norton” – a reference to speculation that the Channel Four presenter would be the man to take charge of the Gaels.
Kielty took the players for a brief training session on Saturday before attending the clubs Black Tie Dinner that evening at the Crown Moran to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Gaels’ first ever London Senior Championship winning side.
Kielty will be assisted in the role by London and Tara player Paul Hehir and will take his first full training session on Wednesday (12 November) at Tir Chonaill Park.
Kielty also comes with some degree of footballing prowess having played minor football for Down in the late 1980’s
