Club Notes - 2nd July 2007

Last Sunday the Senior team continued their winning streak against the Moindearg in the League with a 2-14 to 0-8 win. Although missing a large number of players we were able to field a strong team giving our underage players a chance to shine on the big stage. The next round of the Championship is down for the weekend of 21/22nd July against the Parnells.

The Reserve team got their League campaign off to a winning start last Wednesday with a convincing win over Saint Brendans at Greenford. Veteran Noel Burke was solid at full back with good support from the Gordon brothers. Connor Burke and Gavin McEvoy dominated midfield while up front Chris Maroney, Terry McGivern and the returning JP Boyle looked sharp.

Our Junior team suffered defeat in the McArdle Cup against a tough Round Towers team and will hope to make amends when they take on the Dulwich Gaels in the next round on Sunday at Ruislip 4pm. TCG 0-8 Towers 2-6.

Last Friday the 29th June the Minors played host to the Parnellís with a relatively young team many of whom played on Tuesday against Glen Rovers, the management did not quite know what to expect, however the Gaels did themselves justice after a fairly even start to the match and Aiden Lynham striking the net early the Gaels took a slim lead but the Parnells clawed their way back into the game and the half time the score was 1.1 to 0.5 match could have gone either way, the Parnellís made a better start and went ahead with a 5 point lead and in the 50th minute the Parnellís scored a goal. The young Gaels were not deterred and with Jerome Lawson hitting the net for the Gaels the fight back was on. But two games in 4 days was just too much to ask, the final score being Tir Chonaill Gaels 2.4 Parnellís 1.9 it was a good match to watch and great to see so many Parents and supporters out for the game.

Kyle Hogan, Michael McGuiness, Ricky Williamson, Michael Keating, Luke Lynham, Kevin McFadden, Gerrard Geraghty, Stefan Carr, Jerome Lawson, James OíSullivan, Liam Gavaghan, Ben OíMahony, Marc Hogan, Danny OíBrian, Aiden Lynham, Subs. John Noonan, Clive Mills, Kieran Nash, Liam McDonagh.

Well done to all the boys who put up a great fight.

On Tuesday 26th June 07 the under 16ís travelled to Watford for a league fixture against Glen Rovers who are a Hertfordshire based club playing in the London league and with a reputation of having many trophies in the cabinet they were going to prove tough competition for the Gaels. As the Gaels were set free from the traps they raced into a 6 point lead with the twins Aiden and Frank Lynham creating havoc on the half forward line. With the half time score at 2.6 to 0.3 points the Gaels were showing the sort of spirit we have all become accustomed to. The centre field was orchestrated by Liam Gavaghan & Ben OíMahony the Gaels went onto win comfortably 3.12 to 1.7.

Kieran Nash, Philip Butler, Ryan Gallagher, Michael Keating, Rory Jennings, Gerrard Geraghty, Michael McGuiness, Ben OíMahony, Liam Gavaghan (0.2) Aiden Lynham (1.4) James OíSullivan (1.0) Frank Lynham (0.4) Liam McDonagh (1.0) John Noonan (0.1) Clive Mills (0.1).

Many Thanks to all the supporters who turned out to watch.

Well done to the boys and girls of the under 12 team who beat Saint Brendans by a scoreline of 9-6 to 2-2 in the final of the blitz on Saturday past.
