Club Notes - 25th May 2009
The senior team played their final Tipperary match last Thursday at Northwick Park against the Parnells.
Playing with virtually the McArdle cup team, the young Gaels team gave a good account of themselves against the more experienced opposition.
An early penalty conversion for the Parnells had us chasing the game from the start but youngsters Liam Gavaghan, Tommy Moriarty, Sean Butler and Chris Maroney kept picking off their scores to keep us in contention
With the introduction of Gary McCloskey at half time the Gaels put on the pressure with Sean Butler finding the net and Clive Mills getting two points.
Special mention for goalkeeper Kieran Nash who had an excellent game between the sticks and Captain Stephen Boyle who rallied his troops to the end.
Final score Parnells 1-9, TCG 1-5
Another brave performance from London against Galway last Sunday but the more lively Galway forward line showed their class in the end.
Well done to all of the Gaels lads who put in solid performances with Brian McBrearty having an awesome game in goals with a late Michael Meehan penalty the only black mark on his card.
Conor Beirne and Jonny Hughes in defence with Jonny getting himself a point, Fergus McMahon in midfield, Kevin Downes (0-1), Kevin Mc Menamin (0-2) and Mark Alcorn (1-0) all doing their bit up front.
Unlucky to James O’Connell who was due to start but pulled his hamstring before the game, and not forgetting Maurice Carr who played his part as selector.
Final Score London 1-7, Galway 1-18
One London team got the better of Galway at the weekend with the over 40s sticking their bellies out in an entertaining game at Greenford on Saturday.
Played in front of a good crowd the stiffs showed they may have added on a few pounds but have lost none of their skills and enthusiasm
The Gaels were well represented with Stevie Keane (underage) and Maurice Somers solid in defence, Stephen (stocker) McLoughlin ruled the midfield until he blew up in the second half as he normally does.
Paul Coggins and Maurice Carr showed they haven’t gained any speed over the years but used the ball well in the forward line and not forgetting Rick Williamson and Damian Gillispie who wore the Maroon Jersey for the day
Score, London 1-13, Galway 1-10

The club ask for all members to turn out in force and cheer on the lads.
