Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes 1st June 2009
History was made at Ruislip on Sunday with our All English born Men’s team capturing the McCardle cup in a bruising encounter with the Round Towers.
Played in a scorching heat both teams put on a great display of skills and determination which entertained the large crowd to the final whistle.
The Towers played with a strong wind in the first half and had the Gaels rearguard working overtime with the veteran Noel Burke showing all of his experience.
Going in at half time behind by a score of 1-3 to 0-4 the young Gaels team came out firing on all cylinders for the second half with a great team effort with the hard hitting Gavin McEvoy leading the way.
Tommy Moriarty, Liam Mullan, Liam Gavaghan and Ben O’Mahony all used their senior experience when needed to close out the game at the end.
Credit to both teams for their efforts and showing what London has coming through it underage ranks with special mention for the coaching they have received over the years. Final Score TCG 0-13, Round Towers 1-6
The senior team went down last Saturday in the 2008 Conway cup final against Fulham Irish at Ruislip.
Again playing with a youthful looking side, the Gaels put on a brave show against the more experienced opposition. Final score, Fulham 2-6, TCG 0-8
Best wishes to Gaels Legend Frank Glynn who sets out on Tuesday for his London to Paris charity cycle in aid of Amnesty.
Frank has been spotted in various parts of the country out riding as he has got himself into top shape on his super bike, we wish him well on his trip.
