Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 27th July 2009
At Jubilee Park, Kingsbury last Saturday the senior team battled hard to beat Neasden in the Conway cup quarter final by a score of 1-14 to 2-8
The Gaels got off to a great start with Gavin Mc Evoy finding the net after a mistake in the Neasden defence, a further seven points were added before the opposition got a score on the board.
In the second half Neasden came more into it with Duffy scoring three points and a last minute penalty but with David Cannon and Hugh Cunningham solid in defence the Gaels never looked liked conceding the game.
Shaun Campbell had another good game at wing forward with good support from David Cassidy and Martin Sweeney.
This Sunday the team focus on round two of the championship were we lock horns with Fulham Irish, again the club ask for all members to turn out in force to cheer on the lads as they try to qualify for the semi final. Throw-in is 2pm at Ruislip.
The reserve team qualified for the league final after defeating KKG in the semi final last Sunday at Greenford.
Playing against the wind in the first half the Gaels had to battle hard to keep the score down with some great defending from Lawrence Moore, Stefan Carr and Peter Mooney.
Going in at half time leading 0-4 to 0-2 was a great achievement for the lads and with the wind at their backs for the second half there was only going to be one winner with the rejuvenated Stephen “Stocker” Mc Loughlin lording midfield.
JP O’Donnell was scoring points for fun with good support from Niall Quinn and Barry Mc Donagh.
Final score TCG 0-10, KKG 0-2. Final against Round Towers, TBC
Best wishes to the eleven TCG lads and manager Ricky Williamson who are off to the States on Tuesday to play in the Continental championships for London Minors.
Good luck to senior footballer Fergus McMahon who goes for an operation on his damaged knee at Harley Street on Tuesday; we wish him a speedy recovery.
