Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 17th August 2009
Well done to the senior team on topping the group with a very good performance against St Brendans last Sunday in the championship. The Brendans started the better team with the opening two points but the Gaels got themselves on the board with scores from Kevin McMenamin, Martin Sweeney and Kevin Downes.
Johnny Hughes gave a man of the match performance with his constant attacking putting pressure on the Brendan’s. The Brendans got an unexpected goal five minutes before half time to bring themselves back into it with the Gaels leading at the break 0-8 to 1-3. On the restart the Brendans again where quicker off the mark with the opening two points to level the match but that was short lived as the Gaels went into overdrive with a flurry of points to end the match with a score line of 0-17 to 1-6. Best on the day were Johnny Hughes and Ronan Walsh in defence with the Termon boys McMenamin and Sweeney scoring a combined total of eleven points.
Next up will be the semi final against last years beaten finalists Neasden Gaels, while in the other semi final St Brendans will play KKG.
The reserve team bowed out of the championship last Saturday at Greenford by a score of 2-11 to 0-9 against the Kerry Kingdom Gaels. Two late KKG goals put an end to the Gaels three year unbeaten run in the championship.
