Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 14th September 2009
Last Saturday the senior team booked their place in the championship final for the third year running with a workmanlike performance against the Tara.
The Gaels showed rustiness in the opening half with the Tara looking the sharper team, a nasty collision in the 1st minute between Liam Gill and Ronan Walsh resulting in Gill having to retire with his injuries.
Tara went in at half time with a 1-3 to 0-3 lead having the breeze on their backs, a few sharp words from manager Paul Coggins gave the reigning champions the kick up the backside they needed.
Step up Martin Sweeney who led the way with some excellent points with Kevin McMenimen and Gary McCloskey adding their own.
Ronan Walsh and Hughie Cunningham had excellent games in defence with Connor Beirne working his socks off in midfield.
A late Tara goal deep into injury time reduced the lead to one point but the final whistle was to sound shortly afterwards, and the men in red and white can now focus on a rerun of last years final against Neasden Gaels.
The final will be played on Sunday 4th October at Ruislip with the club attempting to win an historic three in a row. Final score TCG 0-11, Tara 2-4
The club would like to pass on their best wishes to club members James and Mary Callaghan who celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary last weekend at the clubhouse.
Mary was as nervous as she was 50 years ago while James was as cool as a cucumber as they partied the day away with friends and family.
The handsome couple showed no signs of slowing up with a twelve hour bender and already planning for their 60th!
