Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 12th October 2009

Its back to Ruislip this Sunday as the Gaels and Neasden battle it out again in the championship final replay.

Another titanic clash is on the cards and we wish Paul and the team the best of luck and ask for all club members to turn out in force.

The club enjoyed a great trip last weekend to the Belgium capital Brussels for a match against the local side.

Although we got beaten by a point and some may argue that we won by two, it was still an entertaining game for all to celebrate the GAA 125th anniversary.

The highlight of the game was the half time introduction of veteran Maurice Carr making his “final appearance” in a Gaels jersey and he did not disappoint.

Within minutes the Wiley fox received the ball, dummied two markers and planted the ball in the back of the net to the huge cheer from the travelling support.

Commenting after the game with a tear in  his eye, Maurice said he could not have wrote a better ending and has enjoyed the last 33 years playing for the club, but said not to rule out another comeback next year!!

Club stalwarts Burke, McGlynn, Toland, Gallagher and Boyle served the club well off the pitch with some distinction and supporting the local economy, while a lot less can be said for Williamson senior and Burke junior for their choice of night clubs!

Also it was good to meet former St Brendans player and Irish World sports editor John Collins who is now a resident of Brussels, come along to see the Gaels latest talent but was disappointed to see the same old tired faces.
