Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 7th June 2010

The senior team done the double over Fulham Irish last week with victory in the league last Tuesday and the Conway cup semi final on Sunday.

League R2, TCG 1-12, Fulham Irish 1-5

Conway Cup semi final, TCG 0-14, Fulham Irish 1-3

In the Conway cup match it was a tremendous team effort in the heat with special mention for Stephen Boyle, Tommy Moriarty, Liam Gavaghan and Stephen Gormley.

Scorers; L Gavaghan 0-5, J Collins 0-4, K Downes 0-2, N Quinn, S Gormley and B Quinn all 0-1

The junior team were unlucky to go down against Dulwich Gaels last Saturday in the league with Dulwich getting a late winner against the run of play.

A poor first half performance left the team trailing at half time by five points but a mass improvement seen the lads battle back to level the game only to lose at the deaf.

Best on the day were Philip Butler, Ger Geraghty, Clive Mills and Ryan Fortune.

League R2, TCG 0-11, Dulwich Gaels 1-9

Scorers; R Fortune 0-5, S Butler 0-2, D Geraghty, K Mc Fadden, M Mc Guinness and B O’Mahony all 0-1.

The reserve team have a league fixture this Monday 7th June against St Josephs at Greenford, 7-30pm throw-in.

For upcoming fixtures please check the club website or the local newspapers.

Three Peaks Challenge:

Well done to the four club members who completed the Three Peaks mountain challenge last week in a time of 22hrs and 40mins.

Stocker, Maurice, Keano and Paul Hegarty battled the atrocious conditions with rain and snow almost having them to abandon the challenge.

Credit to team leader Stocker for leading from the front and keeping the teams spirits up when all looked doomed. And to Maurice who at times lost touch with the team when falling behind, but thankfully he used his flares to good effect to light up the night sky like Sydney harbour bridge on New years eve!!

London juniors:

Well done to club players JP O’Donnell, Stefan Carr and Declan Sweeney who were part of the London junior team that beat Lancashire last Sunday in the provincial championship by two points.

The club would like to pass on its condolences to club members Maureen and Brendan Vaughan on the loss of Maureen’s father, James “Sonny” Rodgers last Saturday at his home in the Downings/Carigart area of Donegal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their family at this very difficult time, may he rest in peace.
