Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 1st November 2010
Congratulations to the reserve team on retaining the league title after a hard fought victory over the Parnells in the final last Sunday at Greenford.
The game was played at a high tempo with credit to both teams in making it an entertaining affair played in sticky conditions.
The Gaels were gaining revenge after losing the championship final to the same opposition two weeks previous. Again it was a mix of youth and experience that won the team their sixth league title in seven years, Maurice Carr in his 50th year stood between the sticks (literally) and kept a clean sheet, the full back line of youngsters Philip Butler and Gerard Geraghty along with man of the match, veteran Noel Burke were outstanding.
Cormac Mc Garvey making his first start for the team at the age of 16 looked like a season campaigner and after almost two years out of the game with a serious injury, Fergus Mc Mahon returned to play the entire game and show what the club have been missing with an awesome display.
Up front the Veterans Barry Mc Donagh and Stephen “Stocker” Mc Loughlin made their mark with a combined score of 1-5 and in doing so adding another medal to their bulging collection.
Overall it was a great team effort with thanks to all who played their part including Paul Coggins who called the final shots from the sideline before moving onto London to take up his post as manager, also to the tremendous support on the day.
On Saturday 20th November in association with Ladbrokes.com, the club will be
