Three is a beautiful number

19 January 2012

London's Mark Gottsche celebrates with Sean McVeigh as Fermanagh are beaten at Ruislip in the qualifiers
London midfielder Mark Gottsche has targeted three wins in the National football League.

The exiles are once again plying their trade in division four and have very rarely won more than two matches during the league campaign, with the expected two points against Kilkenny often being the only result they have to show for the campaign.

However, a first championship win in almost 30 years in 2011 and an influx of players from home have brought about a renewed confidence in the side.

Throw in the fact that London will have also benefited from their inclusion in the FBD League and Gottsche is in no doubt that they can make more of a mark in the NFL.

"The games have been massively beneficial," Gottsche explained to the Irish Post. "I think it has allowed us to build a squad that will be ready for the national league, rather than just having maybe 15 guys who are up to match speed and the rest have been sitting on the sidelines.

"Last year there was one win over Kilkenny and a walkover against Leitrim so as a minimum requirement it would be nice to get three wins this year. Holding your own at home and making Ruislip a bit of a fortress would certainly be an aim. We want teams not to enjoy coming over here."
