Sherry capture is sweet news for Gaels
By Damian Dolan
Wing back Peter Sherry has confirmed his intent to rule himself out of Peter Canavan’s Fermanagh revolution by joining Greenford club Tir Chonaill Gaels.
Currently living and working in London, the Roslea Shamrocks clubman’s decision will at least come as no surprise to the new Ernesiders boss after Sherry, whose brother James captained Fermanagh in 2010, signalled his intention not to play for the Ernesiders in 2012 in December.
In 2008 he helped Fermanagh reach their first Ulster final since 1982, only to lose 1-11 to 0-8 to Armagh after a replay. Peter lined up at corner back.
Peter began last year’s National Football League campaign but was then, along with brother James, one of 11 players to withdraw from the panel under previous boss John O’Neill, citing that the management fell short of the “high standards of organisation and preparation required”.
James was recalled to the panel by Canavan and featured in Fermanagh’s round 1 NFL win over Clare and against London at Ruislip.
Peter won back-to-back Fermanagh Senior Championships with Roslea Shamrocks in 2010 and 2011, having been part of the side which lost in the 2009 final to Derrygonnelly Harps.
