O’Neill and Conneely set for TCG move
London duo Eoin O’Neill and Conor Conneely are set to join Tir Chonaill Gaels, after Moindearg withdrew their objection to the pair’s transfer request.
The pair had been linked with a move to the Greenford club since the end of last season, and their interest in a switch was confirmed with club to club transfer requests from the duo were among those read out at last week’s county board meeting at Ruislip.
Moindearg initially put the block on the pair’s move when they objected at the county board meeting, but the Irish World understands that subsequent talks between the two clubs will result in Moindearg withdrawing their objection to allow the transfers to go through.
Having helped Moindearg to Intermediate Championship success in 2010, O’Neill elected to return to Galway last year to play championship football with his younger brother for hometown club Renvyle.
Conneely played for Moindearg in 2011 but a plethora of player departures saw them struggle at senior level and they dropped back down to intermediate.
On a busy evening of club to club transfer action, Michael Cusacks pair Stephen Bardon and Stephen Crowe also had their transfer requests to join St Gabriels blocked.
Both had played a leading role last year in Michael Cusacks winning the Intermediate Championship.
Meanwhile, former London inter-county pair Niall and Declan Egan have had their transfers to Parnells confirmed. They were to be joined by Michael Maher, but he has subsequently submitted a transfer request to return to Round Towers.
Another player leaving Parnells is forward Richie Dempsey, who has submitted a transfer to join Tara. Dempsey has played for London and was a second half substitute in last year’s county final defeat to Fulham Irish.
Meanwhile, London full forward Padraig McGolderick handed in a transfer request to join intermediate Heston Gaels, only for Tara to object to the move.
