Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 28th May 2012

Seniors:
The senior team got their championship campaign off to a winning start last Friday at Ruislip against Fulham Irish.
Although missing a number of players the Gaels showed their strength in depth with a solid but workmanlike performance, with more games sure to sharpen them up.
Best on the day were Coleman Hands in defence, Mark Gottshe showing his class in midfield while up front Ciaran Boyle added some steel to the attack.
Final score; TCG 2-8, Fulham Irish 1-8

Juniors:
TCG 0-9 Thomas McCurtains 1-9. The Juniors went down narrowly to McCurtains in this Mullarky Cup game at Greenford despite having the lions share of possession throughout the game. Some good scores from Clive Mills and Sean Butler weren't enough on the day as a goal 10mins from time effectively killed of the TCG challenge. Best on the day was Kevin McFadden at full back whose experience told mopping up every loose ball in the full back line.

Ladies:
The Ladies team got their first win of the year on Tuesday night past in Greenford in the league. They beat Clonbony Ladies by 3 points and congratulations must go to Daniel Friel and Carol McNicholas on a wonderful and memorable win. We wish the girls well for the remainder of the season and hopefully more wins will follow.

Reserves:
The reserve team have a league fixture this Tuesday 29th May against the Parnells at Greenford with a 7.15pm throw-in. All support welcome

Killybegs Visit:
This weekend the club are hosting our good friends from Killybegs (Donegal)
On Saturday (2nd June) we are playing them in two games. Starting at 4pm the Ladies will play Killybeg ladies, whilst at 6pm the seniors will play Killybegs for the Andy Duffy Memorial cup. We would ask all players and members to please come down and support what will be a great day.
After the game their will be a buffet and presentation with a game of “Take me out” to follow, so lock up your sons, boyfriends, husbands etc….

Cardiac Screening:
The club would very much like to thank Christina Curran for organising the Cardiac Screening clinic for all club members over the weekend. Nearly 80 members of the club were screened and another 90 from other London clubs. So many thanks Christina for putting this together.

Condolences:
The club would like to pass on our condolences to club member Seamus Carr and his wife Brid after the death of Brid’s mother Rose Hegarty at her home in Glencolmkille last weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

London v Leitrim:
This Sunday all roads lead to Ruislip as London set out to cause an upset against Leitrim in the first round of the Connaught championship.
Manager Paul Coggins goes up against another former Gaels player Barney Breen who is co manager of Leitrim. We wish all of the our lads, David Mc Greevy, Coleman Hands, Peter Sherry, Mark Gottshe, Ciaran Boyle, Ciaran Bonner and Eoin O’Neill all the best and hope they bring home the bacon.

Gala Dinner Dance:
The tickets are now available for the 50th Gala Ball. A high number of people have reserved tickets for the event set for Saturday 27th October in the Crown Moran hotel. However, your places will only be guaranteed when you purchase your tickets. Tickets can be got from Stocker or Adrian Byrne. We would prefer all those that have reserved tickets to please pay for them by the end of June, as after that date they will go to general sale. We do have a big demand for this event.
