Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes 18th June 2012
The senior team booked their place in the first final of the season after defeating Fulham Irish in the Conway cup semi final at Ruislip last Saturday.
Windy conditions made it difficult for the teams to convert scores, but the Greenford men playing with the wind in the opening half took the lead and never let it go for the remainder of the match with the in-form Micheal Traynor finding the net.
Laois man Barry Mitchell made an impressive debut at half forward but it was the season campaigners of Austin Concannon, Marty Mc Coy, Caolan Doyle, Mark Gottshe and Micheal Traynor who all stood out in our third win of the season over the Fulham men. Due to player power, Ciaran Boyle can not be mentioned here for the foreseeable future after another fine performance. Final score TCG 1-9, Fulham 1-6:
The junior team travelled to Coventry last Saturday to defend the Ann Boyle memorial cup and they did not disappoint.
The Lads got off to a great start with some early points from
Liam Gavaghan, Clive Mills and a goal from Tommy Moriarty lead to a halftime score line of 1.9 to 0.4 in which (John ' Grobbelaar put the phone down Flynn) saved a spot kick diving to his right to turn the ball around the post for a 45.
The second half went much the same with another Moriarty goal coupled with another 7 points from various forwards.
James turn coat Flynn had his transfer come through at halftime so played much of the second half for Roger Casement and was a menace for Marty at halfback.
Many thanks again to our hosts Roger Casements for their hospitality and fabulous day’s fun.
Well done to the under 12 team on winning the shield at the Ann Boyle memorial day last Saturday at Roger Casements club Coventry.
This week’s fixtures are as follows, the senior team play St Kiernan’s on Tuesday 19th June at Mill Hill in the semi final of the Tipperary cup with a 7.30pm start.
On Saturday 23rd June the junior team have a league match against Shalloe Pearses at Greenford at 3.30pm followed by a reserve league game against KKG with a 5pm throw-in. All support most welcome for all games.
Return of a Legend:
The club had the pleasure of the company of one of our greatest servants to Ruislip last Saturday when Eddie Mc Ginty appeared out of the blue with his trademark pipe.
Eddie has served every position in the club from the late 60s right up to 2004 and without doubt will go down in history as one of our great stalwarts.
It was a flying visit from the Castlefin man who was over campaigning to rebuild the Galty and canvassing for votes for next years chair!!
We look forward to catching up again with him at our 50th Anniversary dance in October.
We have re-arranged the kit/sponsorship launch for Friday 29th June at 7pm in the clubhouse. As you all know we had to cancel the last two due to the re-arranged championship game. Again, we would ask all members/ players to please try and get down and give Powerday a big welcome. A hot buffet will also be served.
We look forward to seeing you all on the night.
50th Dinner Dance:
