Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes 16th July 2012

Juniors:
The Tir Chonaill Gaels Junior team went to Goodmayes, East London to play Thomas McCurtains in their 1st round Junior championship game and came away with a great win 1 11 to 1 8. Not too many people in London give the Gaels any hope of winning against one of the championship favourites but our lads played a great game. Manager Michael Cunningham pulled of a blinder during the week and got London senior manager and Gaels man Paul Coggins to work with his squad in the build up to this game and it worked a treat.
Playing against a breeze in the 1st half the Gaels held their own but did concede a late goal to let the McCurtain's lead by four points at half time, 1-6 to 0-5. However the Gaels dominated the second half with outstanding performances all over the pitch. They only conceded two points to Mc Curtains in the second half, whilst TCG scored 1-6. Clive Mills scoring a goal which came from the hard working Kieran Cunningham who had an excellent game throughout.
However, the Gaels defence was outstanding all day with Kevin McFadden, Cormac McGarvey, Gerard Geraghty, Stefan Carr and Philip Butler standing firm all day. Whilst at mid-field Gavin McEvoy and Paddy Flynn out shone their opponents with Gavin converting two 45s at vital times.
Up front Brendan Scannell, Kieran Cunningham, Donal Geraghty, Clive Mills, Tommy Moriarty and Liam Gaviighan were outstanding with Kieran Cunningham winning his fair share of ball and fought hard all day.
It was a wonderful team performance and manager Michael Cunningham will have the task of keeping their feet firmly on the ground because if they can perform like this for the remaining games the lads could have a great season.
Well done lads and next up is Shalloe Pearces on Sunday 29th July.

All Britain Competition:
This weekend will see the inaugural "O'Neill's" All Britain Competition (ABC) taking place at Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford from the 20th July - 22nd July.

For all those who have yet to pay for tickets for the Gala Ball, we would ask that you please pay for those tickets as soon as possible as tickets are almost sold out.
The reason being is that we have had a huge demand for tickets and places are limited with this event going to be a definite sell out. Tickets are priced at £70 each and can be got from Geraldine Keane.

King of the Alps:
Long serving club member Frank Glynn reached new boundaries last week when he completed a stage of the tour de France over the Alps.
Frank now at an age where he should be attending Bingo sessions done the gruelling 150k climb the day before the big boys in a slightly slower time!!
He will need to put up a good few more miles in his training when he competes against cycle legend Stephen “Stocker” Mc Loughlin in Holland/Belgium in September. Picture it, a scene from last of the summer wine!
