Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 30th July 2012

Last Sunday the senior team had a comprehensive win over Round Towers in round two of the championship at Ruislip.
The first half the Towers did not make it easy with some hard hitting and tight marking in their rearguard making scoring chances hard got by.
The full forward line of Whoppa, Eoin O’Neill and Benny O’ Reilly showed out in front well with good support from Barry Mitchell, Ciaran Boyle and debutant Johnny McNicholas from Mayo, but with a much crowded defence frustrating them.
Early injuries to defenders Dean Gordon and Eamon Mc Conville meant early appearances from Dave Mc Greevy and David Harrington as the half finished in favour of the Gaels leading by six points to two.
The second half started well with two early goals from Eoin O’Neill and substitute Ciaran Bonner to open up a ten point lead and virtually end the contest.
With the introduction of Bonner the forward line started to link up well with points from Whoppa, McNicholas, Boyle, Magean and Bonner himself.
Substitute Fergus Horan was only on the pitch for a matter of seconds before he found the back of the net for the Gaels third goal and top off a satisfactory performance.
Best on the day were Kevin Mc Menemin and Eoin O’Neill up front with the midfield pairing of Caolan Doyle and Luke Kavanagh dominating their patch.
In defence David Mc Greevy who made an early appearance as a substitute stood out with his excellent support play going forward, while the two comedians who are Tomas Gribben and Mark Mc Conville are starting to peak at last!
Final score TCG 3-14 Round Towers 0-3:
Scorers: C Bonner 1-2; E O’Neill 1-1; K McMenemin 0-4; F Horan 1-0;
J McNicholas 0-3; B Mitchell; C Boyle; L Kavanagh; E Magean; all 0-1:

The junior team look to have booked their place in the semi final of the championship after this hard working performance against a physical Shalloe Pearses at Greenford.
The young guns are starting to show maturity beyond their years with excellent support play and calm heads throughout the game.
Michael Cunningham’s charges took the hits and got on with it as they never let the lead slip with the excellent Liam Gavaghan leading from the front.
It would be unfair to name who played well as it was an excellent squad performance all round with the lads clocking up 2-15 and defending for their lives.
To date this year has been a great achievement from the team with them all pulling together and gathering momentum at the right time of the season.
They will still be looked upon as outsiders for the championship but right them off at your pearl with confidence growing all the time.
Final score; TCG 2-15 Shalloe Pearses 0-8.
Scorers: L Gavaghan 1-7; T Moriarty 1-1; C Mills 0-3; R Fortune; D Geraghty; P Flynn; J Noonan; all 0-1:
