Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes 10th September 2012

Reserves
The Reserves were due to play in Heston in the championship and again they were given another walk over. Heston have now withdrawn from the competition, but it is something London has to look at as too many games this year have resulted in walkovers and spoiling the competitions.

Ladies
However, the Gaels Ladies had a great weekend with a 5-8 to 3-11 win over Dulwich in the junior championship semi final. It means the Ladies have now qualified for two cup finals which will be played in October in their first season of competing.

Mairead Sheahan, Fiona Morrisey, Niamh Bradley and Susie Gill had great games for the Gaels and were well supported by Carol McNicholas. The ladies will now play Thomas McCurtains in the final, but what a great achievement it has being for this bunch of girls in their first competitive season.

The clubs Minors however, did get beat by two points in the minor championship semi-final to a better Tara team on the day.

Fixtures:
It’s a big weekend for the club with the juniors playing in the junior championship final on Saturday in Ruislip at 3.30pm against a much fancied CuChullains side. It is the clubs first junior championship final since they last won it away back in 1977. We would ask all members to please make their way to Ruislip on Saturday and support the lads on. What they achieved this year so far has being great and we hope they can go one extra step.

The Reserves are also up in the championship on Sunday in Greenford against Fulham Irish at 4pm, whilst the seniors play KKG in the league also on Sunday in Greenford at 5.30.

50th Donegal Function:
To celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary, some of our former members back in Donegal have organised a get together in the Mc Cumhaill centre, in Ballybofey, County Donegal on Friday 21st September 2012.
Entry fee on the night will be 10 euro with live music and a hot buffet provided.
Contact club secretary Stephen Mc Loughlin on 0044 7788 723922 or Niall Erskine on 00353 (86) 3955410 for more details.

Gala Dinner:
For all those that reserved tickets for the Gala Ball, we would ask that you please pay for those tickets as soon as possible as numbers are limited.
The reason being is that we have had a huge demand for tickets and places will only be kept for paid tickets. Tickets are priced at £70 each and can be got from Geraldine Keane.
Geraldine can be contacted at geraldine1keane@gmail.com or on 07958 322943

Congratulations
The club want to congratulate club member Brendan “Tiny” Vaughan and his organising team for a wonderfully organised Car Vintage Rally which took place at the club grounds on Sunday 2nd September. Thousands of supporters turned out to the see the large array of vintage vehicles on show and help raise thousands of pounds for a variety of charities. Brendan also done MC on the day and by all accounts done a great job! May his great work continue and no doubt the event will be bigger and better again next year.
