Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes 11th April 2013

Seniors:
The seniors got the season off to a great start last Sunday 7th with an impressive 4-16 to 1-6 win over Round Towers, played in Mitcham in the first group game of the Tipperary Cup. The new management team for 2013 Eugene Meehan (manager), Brian McBrearty (selector) and Declan Alcorn (trainer and selector) would have being happy with the perfect start, even though they were missing several key players due to London commitments.
This weekend (Saturday 13th) the seniors play Round Towers in the championship, which is the final game to seed the teams for the championship proper which starts in July. The game is at 5pm in Greenford on Saturday 13th.

Juniors:
The juniors start their 2013 season with a game on Sunday 14th in Greenford against St Anthony's in the McArdle Cup and we wish new manager Ricky Williamson and his management team of Michael Cunningham and Stevie Keane (Selectors) the very best for the year ahead.

London v Leitrim:
The London county team were narrowly beaten last weekend by Leitrim in their final game of the national league; 1-9 to 1-11.
Our very own Philip Butler made his London senior debut at the age of twenty at corner back and was outstanding throughout and played the entire game. It is important to mention this achievement as he has come through the TCG under-age and has impressed at all levels.
The club congratulate Philip on his achievement as we the club and I'm sure his family are very proud of him. It just shows the great work and coaching that goes in at Minor Board level as they watch some of the young lads mature.
We wish all our players that have being involved with London this year Gavin McEvoy, Philip Butler, Gary Magee, Eamon McConville, Caolan Doyle, Barry Mitchell, Cathal McGee, Aiden McTigue, Mark Gottsche and Eoin O'Neill all the very best as they now prepare for Sligo in the championship

Ladies:
The TCG Ladies season does not start for a few weeks but they are training hard under the guidance of Conor Conneely and we wish them well for the year ahead.

Farewell:
The club would like to thank Adrian Byrne who after twelve years has left the club, and moved onto another venture. Adrian ran the Social club and made many friends and was a great asset to the club and will be sorely missed and we take this opportunity to thank him for all his hard work over the years and we hope to see him down in the clubhouse over the coming months sitting on the other side of the bar.

Wedding Bells:
The club would like to Congratulate ex-player and club captain Stevie Boyle, who over the Easter holidays got married to fiancée Charlotte in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Stevie Joined the club in 2004 and over the seven years he played for us, he managed to collect four London senior championship medals and represent London over a number of seasons. All at the club wish them a happy and prosperous life together.

Crossmaglen Sevens:
The club is sending back a ten man team and a few followers to play in the Crossmaglen International sevens tournament on Saturday 20th April. Ten teams from Britain, Australia and Ireland will play in two groups of five in a 7 a-side tournament with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi finals. More details can be local boy Stocker Mc Loughlin.

Quiz Night:
The Ladies board is hosting a QUIZ NIGHT in the clubhouse on Friday 3rd May with teams consisting of 5 players. Entry fee will be £5 per person and they would appreciate as much support as possible. We would ask the seniors, reserves, juniors and Minor board to please come out and support the girls in this great night’s craic and fundraiser.
The deadly duo of Ann-Marie Mc Gill and Conor Conneely will be the quiz masters.

London Marathon:
The club passes on our best wishes to long serving player Noel Burke who next weekend tackles the London Marathon for the first and last time.
Noel who is not known for his training has spent the last four months on a high protein diet and had many a dark evening pounding the streets of Harrow.
If you would like to sponsor Noel for his chosen charity please call him on 07968629528 for payment details.
