Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 9th September 2013
Our senior team kicked off their championship title defence last Sunday against KKG in the first group match at Ruislip.
In a rematch of last years final the Greenford men lay down a marker for this year’s campaign that they won’t be giving up the cup without a fight.
The full forward line of Kevin Mc Menamin, Benny O Reilly and Eoin O Neill kept the KKG defence on the back foot at all times with a combined score of 1-8.
Marty McCoy marshalled the defence well with captain Luke Kavanagh standing out in the middle of the park. Next up is Round Towers with the date and venue to be confirmed.
Final score, TCG 1-11, KKG 0-7.
Our junior team also last Sunday week played Dulwich Harps in the semi final of the championship and looked dead and buried with the game entering injury time.
Trailing by four points a Stephen Ruddy point reduced it to three points and with virtually the last kick of the game, up pops man of the match Liam Gavaghan to find the net to snatch a draw.
It was a sound defensive performance by the boys but some shabby shooting up front had us fighting for our lives but we live to fight another day.
The replay took place last Sunday 8th September with a total turnaround performance with the Young Guns winning by a score line of 2-10 to 1-4.
The final score was somewhat flattering as Dulwich played some excellent football in the second half but failed to convert their scores.
So it all boils down to this Sunday were we lock horns with a vastly improving St Anthony’s team in the final.
