Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 19th September 2013

Seniors:
Our senior team qualified for the semi final stage of the championship last weekend by defeating Round Towers by a score of 2-22 to 1-5.
Played on the back pitch at Greenford the Gaels found it difficult for scores in the early stages with not much room for manoeuvre.
John Mc Grath was on fire in the forward line with good support from Cathal Magee and Eoin O’Neill while Brian Collins and Marty McCoy stood out in defence.
Next up will be the final game of the group stages against Parnells on Sunday 29th September.

Juniors:
The junior team had one hand on the championship cup last Sunday in the dying seconds of the final against St Anthonys only to be denied by the last kick of the game to leave it a draw. Cormac Mc Garvey had a solid game in defence with Patrick Flynn and the outstanding Liam Cunningham getting the upper hand in midfield. Up front the hard working Liam Gavaghan stood out with good support from Daniel Duggan.
The replay will take place on Sunday 29th September in Ruislip with a time to be confirmed.

Condolences:
The club received the sad news last week of the passing by of vice president and long serving member James Callaghan.
The Killybegs native spend many a year supporting the club and being ever present at AGM’s and functions throughout his long association with the club.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Mary, family and friends throughout London, England and Ireland.
His funeral mass took place last Thursday 19th September in the Visitation church in Greenford followed by the burial at the nearby cemetery.
Sadly missed by all, may he rest in peace.

Engagement:
The club would like to pass on our best wishes to bar staff Lois and Andy who got engaged last week.

Best Wishes:
Next week three long established club members head off to Northern Italy to take part in a charity cycle. Stephen Mc Loughlin, Paul Hegarty and Frankie “Turbo bike” Glynn will set off together but are unlikely to finish together with some bikes not as high-Tec as others. We wish the lads well and come back safe and sound.
