Mohan: we had no other choice
Tir Chonaill Gaels chairman Tom Mohan believes that there was no other solution to the winter championship controversy.
London clubs have agreed to play championship games early in the year in order to make players eligible for the county team as they must feature in the club championship before representing the county.
Mohan admitted to the Irish Post that playing championship games in January and February was far from perfect, but stressed that there was no other option.
"Winter football is not ideal," said Mohan. "But there was no other way in terms of progressing the county teams. It will definitely rule out certain players for the reserve championship but, on the plus side, it takes uncertainty out of it for the clubs.
"Players who play a round of winter championship in January will then be eligible for London, but they will also be tied to their clubs for the rest of the season. The option of transferring home will not be an option next year like it was this season." -
