Tir Chonaill Gaels Youth Notes - 12th May 2014

TCG Peter McGlynn Tournament & Blitz
Thank you to everyone; players, clubs, families, visitors and TCG members who supported our annual Peter McGlynn Memorial Tournament and Blitz held in glorious sunshine on the Bank Holiday Monday. There was a fantastic, fun atmosphere buzz, around the grounds all day with the new addition of a live radio show broadcast from the clubhouse and live music afterwards. Around 450 children from U6 to U14 enjoyed a feast of gaelic football and hurling. Congratulations to the Cup winners, Dulwich Harps, who came out on top of a very competitive group with Parnells and TCG. Well done also to the Shield winners St Kiernans and to Roger Casements who took the Plate home to Coventry. Thank you to all the clubs in attendance; Dulwich Harps, Thomas McCurtains, North London Shamrocks, St Kiernans, Tara, Parnells, St Brendans, Heston Gaels, St Dympnas (Luton), Roger Casements (Coventry) and Tir Chonaill Gaels -  for supporting the tournament. The future of underage gaelic also looks good for some time with over 50 U6 children from three clubs playing in fun games. Once more we had hurling at the football event with many young footballers giving it a go, hopefully boosting the numbers and profile of the hurling clubs.  A massive thank you to everyone who chipped in (too many to name) to help with the preparations, the running of the event and the clear up afterwards. A special mention for Michael and Margaret McGlynn who continue to come back to visit us for the tournament in memory of their son Peter, it was great to see them and hopefully they will be back again in future years.

Gaelic Football for Girls
Tir Chonaill Gaels held a very successful Development Day for girls aged 9-14 on Saturday with close to 100 girls attending from St Pauls Academy, St Thomas More, Tara, Parnells, St Lawrences (Manchester) and Tir Chonaill Gaels. Well done to Vince McCarthy and Elaine Hayes for putting on a very enjoyable day promoting the game for girls with a great mix of coaching and games. We hope to see more similar development days at different venues through the summer.
