The big interview - Stephen "Stocker" McLoughlin

Due to popular demand the TCG public have asked for club secretary Stephen “Stocker” McLoughlin to answer the questionnaire.

Stocker joined the club in 1996 and has won numerous championships and has been on the committee for 15 years. He has been likened to Mayor of London, Boris Johnson; colourful, outspoken, cuddly and full of crap. Let’s be having you big fella:

What’s on your iPod?
Rock! And more Rock!! Anything that keeps the pulse going.  AC/DC, Whitesnake, & Blackfoot. Also a little bit of Randy Crawford to cool things down.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Give me back my long hair!

What are your hobbies and interests outside the GAA?
Love all sport. Collecting coins and reading history. Oh Yeh. Love watching my daughter compete at gymnastics.

What’s your favourite TV programme?
The Walking Dead, Hawaii 5-O and Only fools & Horses

Who’s your sporting idol?
Kevin Keegan. He worked his socks off…………Like me!

Do you have any unusual pre-match routines or superstitions? 
No. Nonsense. Just Lock & Load and get out and at them!

What’s your earliest GAA memory?
All-Ireland semi-final in 1977 when Armagh beat Roscommon to reach only their 2nd All-Ireland final.

What’s your favourite venue?
Croke Park. Played and won an All-Ireland in 1980. Nothing beats being there !!!!

If forced to play for another county, who would you choose?
Any County bar Kerry. Don’t ask!!!!!

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Never stop believing as anything is possible.

If you could choose one footballer from another team to play with TCG who would it be?
Anthony Tohill as like me, he could field ball and also like me, put most midfielders in his back pocket.!

Who is the most difficult opponent you have ever encountered?
Maurice Carr as he not stopped complaining throughout the game!!!! Done my ears in!

Who is your all-time favourite GAA player/childhood hero?
Watched Frank McGuigan (Tyrone) destroy Armagh in the 82 Ulster final with 11 scores and every one of them from play and with both feet. Still talked about today. Legend!!!! 

Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
My parents. RIP to both of them. Totally supportive!!!!

What does this Club mean to you?
20 years service. What do you think.

Who is the best player on the TCG team?
Then: Tommy Maguire.        Now: Mark Gottsche

Who is the most committed Club person at TCG.
Non-Stop Maurice Carr. The club would fall apart without him!!!!

Who is your most confident team-mate?
Then: Andy “Bus” Carr      Now: Gary Magee  (Both are Down men, maybe that’s says something)

Who is the worst dressed in the panel?
Then: Paul Hegarty (Had a love for colours)   Now: Brendan McAtarnsey (Reminds me of University Challenge)

Who is the worst trainer in the TCG panel?
Then: Maurice Carr      Now: Luke Kavanagh

Who is the biggest joker?
Then: Paddy Tinnelly (Another Down man)   Now: Tomas Gribben

If TCG were to start a boy band, who would be in it? 
Me (On Bass and vocals), Chris McGovern (Lead Vocalist), JP O’Donnell (Drums) as he always causes a racket, Michael Mullins(Lead guitarist as he has a strong wrist and soft hands). 

Definitely not in it?
Brian Duddy (Just too good looking)!!

Which player on the tcg team always seems to be on the injured list? 
Then: Paul Coggins (Bunions, Curled toes)  Now: Barry Mitchell (Always some muscle pull)

Who fancies themselves as the best looking on the team?
Unquestionably Then: Andy “Bus” Carr. Always looking in the mirror.    Now: I believe its Barry Mitchell (Mr Smooth)

If you could make up an award for any player on team, what would it be? and who would get it?
Most Determined new-comer.   The winner is Niall Boyle!!!!
