Tir Chonaill Gaels Youth Notes - 11th May 2015
Peter McGlynn Tournament
Many thanks to everyone; players, clubs, families, visitors and TCG members who supported the Tir Chonaill Gaels' Annual Peter McGlynn Memorial Tournament at Greenford on (Bank Holiday Monday). Once again the weather was fantastic which helped to contribute to a fabulous fun atmosphere around the club. Around 270 children from U6 to U13 enjoyed a feast of Gaelic football. Congratulations to the Cup winners, Parnells 1, who came out on top of a very competitive group with Tara 1 and Thomas McCurtains. Well done also to the Shield winners Tara 2 and to St Kiernans who won the Plate. Clubs in attendance were, Thomas McCurtains, North London Shamrocks, St Kiernans, Tara, Parnells, Heston Gaels, Roger Casements (Coventry) and Tir Chonaill Gaels. A highlight again was the U6 fun section which is growing each season with children from six clubs playing this year. A massive thank you to everyone who chipped in to help with the preparations, the running of the event and the clear up afterwards. A special mention for Michael and Margaret McGlynn who continue to come back to visit us from their native Donegal for the tournament which is held in memory of their son Peter, it was great to see them and hopefully they will be back again in future years.
TCG Girls Gaelic Football Development Day
The recent Development Day saw 80 secondary school girls from years 7-11 enjoy a great days football with players from Dulwich Harps, Parnells, Claddagh Gaels and Tir Chonaill Gaels in attendance. There was a fun and friendly atmosphere with the girls using the day to improve their gaelic football skills as well as socialising with each other. The aim of these development days is to help Girl's Youth clubs/teams to generate more interest in girls gaelic football and hopefully evolve into a future competitive structure if enough clubs are willing to get involved. Teams awards on the day went to Dulwich Harps and TCG, with 20 individual awards for skills and effort going to girls from all clubs attending. Sincere thanks to everyone who participated and those who organised the day at TCG
