Tir Chonaill Gaels Notes - 9th November 2015
The eagerly awaited semi-final of the Senior Football Championship went ahead against the Kingdom of Kerry Gaels after a two-month delay and as expected a tough battle ensued. The Kingdom got of to the brighter start, racing into a 3 point lead was the Gaels struggled to keep their hands on the ball in the first ten minutes. The Gaels then took control of the game and ran at the Kingdom and were rewarded with a tally of 1-05 before the half was out with some exceptional build up play and score taking. The team can thank Declan Traynor in goals for keeping a clean sheet and when a Mark Gottsche shot took a deflection, the Gaels domination was rewarded with a Brian Duddy goal. Half-time score 1-05 to 0-04.
Playing with the wind, the Gaels started the second half well with Niall Boyle landing a corker of a point. That was the end of the one way traffic as the Kingdom began to eat into the lead and hit four points on the trot, with three impressive points from frees, against the wind from the deck. The game was in the balance with five minutes to go with the Kingdom needing only a point to level, Liam Gavigan, Mark Gottsche and Adrian Hanlon took control in the biddle of the field and the Gaels landed two points to kill the game off. Final score 1-09 to 0-09.
Well done to Barney, Lloyd, JP and the boys this is the groups' 4th final in a row and the club's 16th in all. The final is fixed for the 29th of November with the throw-in to be confirmed. St.Kiernans await for the first appearance in a Senior Championship Final and another battle awaits.
