Tir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes - 30th November 2015
"Another one in the bag" as a prominent club member put it. A huge congratulations toTir Chonaill Gaels who won their 16th County Championship at Ruislip yesterday afternoon. On a day where the strong wind made conditions extremely difficult, both teams managed to play good football and it turned out to be high-scoring game in the end. The Gaels played into the wind in the first half and a brilliant '45 from Mark Gottsche got the Gaels on the scoreboard. A well taken free and a rasping goal from Adrian Hanlon soon followed before the Kiernan's hit back with a goal of their own. Another goal from Seamie Friel brought the tally to 2-02 and the Gaels went in a point down at half-time.
The high tempo continued in the second half with both teams trading scores, John McGrath, Niall Boyle and Cathal Magee all getting on the scoreboard and Brian Duddy was in the right place at the right time to score a vital third goal for the Gaels. Commanding performances from Marty McCoy and Cathal Magee were topped off with points from both men taking the final score to 3-10 to 1-12. It was a great all round performance from the lads who dealt with the tough conditions well and a huge congratulations to Barney, Lloyd, JP and all the panel on the historic win.
The boys then had an opportunity to watch themselves on TV in the clubhouse later on with style guru Michael Mullen cutting a Jose Murhonio-esque figure in the dugout as well! Michael felt he had to up his game following TV appearances from Club Chairman Tom Mohan & Club Photographer Tiny the previous evening.
Next up the Gaels face the challenge of Clonmel Commercials on the 12th of December in the All-Ireland Quarter Final and we wish them well.
Colm Tully R.I.P
The club was deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Colm Tully on Friday evening. Colm, with his brothers and nephews to follow all played with the and were devout supporters when they hung up their boots for the decades to follow. Colm was present with his family at the 1990 25 year anniversary only a few weeks back. We extend our sincere sympathies to his wife Catherine, his son Christopher and all the Tully and family.
Congrats to the minor board who had their dinner dance at the weekend, as always it was expertly run, well attended and enjoyable. Well done to the various award winners.
